Nida Institute for Biblical Scholarship

The Nida Institute serves the global Church at the intersection of Scripture, language, and culture. Named for Eugene A. Nida, we bring together scholars, translators, and practitioners to advance faithful Bible translation and meaningful Scripture engagement across the world’s languages and cultures.

We are an interdisciplinary community shaped by biblical scholarship, linguistics, translation practice, and emerging technologies. Rooted in the legacy of Eugene Nida, our work continues to explore how meaning moves across languages, cultures, and forms of communication.

Our Purpose

What We Are Passionate About

Our work is guided by deep convictions: scholarly excellence, the centrality of the majority world, cross-cultural ways of knowing, orality and embodied communication, and serving the global Church all the way to the last mile of access.

Tools AND resources

What We Build

We develop shared tools and resources for Bible translation and Scripture engagement: frameworks for translation quality, teaching and training materials, scholarly reference works, and visual resources such as maps and images that deepen understanding across languages and cultures.

Our current projects reflect our commitments in action. They bring together scholars, practitioners, and technologists to address real needs in translation, teaching, visual understanding, and global access—often in partnership with organizations around the world.

Spheres of Engagement

We bring together scholars, Bible translators, and software developers to collaborate on projects and resources for the whole community.
