The Majority World
From the beginning, our work has centered on the majority world. We recognize that the present and future of the Church—and of Bible translation—is global. This commitment shapes whose questions we listen to, whose voices we elevate, and whose realities guide our priorities.
Cross-Cultural Ways of Knowing and Communicating
Faithful translation requires more than accuracy with words; it requires attention to how meaning actually travels across cultures and languages. We are passionate about learning from ways of knowing beyond the modern Western academy—where meaning is carried through story, image, performance, repetition, community memory, and lived practice. We continually ask not only what is correct, but what truly communicates.
Orality and Embodied Communication
Most of the world engages knowledge orally and communally. We are committed to approaches that honor oral cultures, performance, memory, and embodied participation—not only printed texts. Scripture was first heard before it was read, and we believe that impacts how it is translated, taught, and received today.
The Last Mile of Access
We care deeply about Scripture reaching real people in forms they can understand, receive, and live by. Faithful translation does not end with publication; it continues until Scripture can be meaningfully engaged within local communities, languages, and lives. Serving the global Church means paying attention to that last mile.

The challenges of Bible translation and global Scripture engagement are too complex for any single discipline, organization, or method. At the Nida Institute, we work by bringing together complementary expertise, shared infrastructure, and careful human judgment—so that insight can travel farther and serve more people faithfully.
Working Across Organizational Silos
Many organizations excel in specific areas—biblical scholarship, linguistics, translation practice, technology, visual design—but few spaces exist where these strengths are intentionally integrated. We serve as a collaborative hub where scholars, practitioners, technologists, and designers work together across institutional boundaries. This kind of partnership is essential for creating resources that are both deeply informed and widely usable by translators and the global Church.
Human–AI Collaboration with Scholarly Oversight
We make responsible use of advanced language technologies to accelerate research, analysis, and resource development. These systems help us prototype ideas, surface patterns, and scale scholarly insight. At every stage, however, human expertise remains central. Biblical scholars, linguists, and translation consultants are directly involved in shaping inputs, evaluating outputs, and refining results—ensuring accuracy, nuance, and accountability. Technology serves the work; it does not replace human judgment.
Integrated Work on Maps, Images, and Visual Resources
Understanding Scripture is profoundly shaped by geography, movement, and visual context. Yet expertise in maps and images is often fragmented across organizations and disciplines. We intentionally bring together people working on visual resources—cartographers, designers, scholars, and technologists—so that maps and images are developed in conversation with linguistic, cultural, and exegetical insight. This integrated approach allows visual resources to function as genuine tools for understanding, not merely illustrations.
Open Sharing and Reuse
Whenever possible, we release our work under open licenses that enable translation, adaptation, and reuse. Shared resources strengthen the whole ecosystem, allowing local communities, educators, and translation teams to build on one another’s work rather than starting from scratch.
